Arsenal je spremio 15 miliona eura koliko Bayern traži za 31-godišnjeg njemačkog reprezentativca.
Boateng je ove sezone zaigrao u samo osam utakmica u Bundesligi, te je nezadovoljan statusom izrazio želju da napusti Minhen.
Nakon što je Calum Chambers doživio povredu zbog koje neće više igrati ove sezone Topnici su se bacili u potragu za novim štoperom, a izbor je pao na Boatenga iako je u konkurenciji bio i Leipzigov Dayot Upamecano.
