Which EU Country Produces The Most ISIS Fighters?
by Elise Andrew
In the aftermath of the recent attacks in Paris, the i100 has comprised an infographic that shows the estimated number of ISIS fighters per capita in 15 different countries.
The data, comprised by Statista, shows that Jordan and Tunisia contribute significantly more fighters per capita than any of the other countries studied. Kosovo, along with Bosnia and Herzegovina, are the top two European countries that have the highest number of ISIS fighters proportional to their population.
Belgium was the highest-scoring EU country in the study – with an estimated 40 ISIS fighters per million people.
The i100 also reported that Belgium's chief police commissioner said that of 474 Belgians linked with the Syrian conflict, more than 200 Belgian nationals are still in Syria. Intelligence agencies believe the recent Paris attacks were devised by Belgium-born Abdelhamid Abaaoud.
